City Hotel, Eckernförde

Opened in 1989, the city hotel in the Baltic seaside resort of Eckernförde is an architectural landmark of the coastal town and is characterised by its exceptional location directly on the sandy beach. The hotel was built on the Exer directly next to the town hall and blends into the urban structure. With 65 rooms offering a fantastic view of the Baltic Sea or the old town, the hotel attracts holidaymakers and business travellers alike. The building, which was designed by our office founder Günter Haß, has an organic design language with rounded corners that creates a harmonious connection to the coastal landscape.

Architecture and facade: modernity meets tradition

In his design for the hotel, Günter Haß combined a red-brown clinker brick facade, reminiscent of the traditional brick architecture of Schleswig-Holstein, with modern lines and edges. These details give the building a contemporary look that is both robust and inviting. The facade not only conveys a visual connection to the coastal region, but also emphasises the timeless aesthetics of the city hotel.

Guest rooms: light and views

The hotel’s 65 rooms are bright and spacious, with large windows that let in plenty of natural light and offer guests impressive views of the sea or the city. The room layout is based on modern functionality that emphasises comfort and relaxation. The design of the building also creates a special spatial atmosphere and conveys a feeling of lightness and openness.

A hotel with maritime flair and proximity to the coast

Situated directly on the beach, the Stadthotel Eckernförde epitomises its proximity to the coast not only through its location, but also through its design. The weather-resistant materials and organic shape contribute to the longevity of the building, which remains an integral part of the coastal landscape even after more than three decades. With its design, the hotel reflects the maritime charm and North German building culture and is a popular destination for anyone who wants to experience the Baltic Sea and the flair of Eckernförde.
