An architectural milestone

The Town Hall was the first major competition organised by our office founder Günter Haß. In 1970, our architectural office won the general contractor competition, which placed the highest demands on planning and cost management. Supported by Baurat Roland Winkelmann and two students, we succeeded in presenting a convincing plan within three months. The project was completed on schedule and officially opened on 3 June 1972.

Design and materials

The Town Hall combines functional architecture with attractive design. Characteristic materials such as concrete, steel, glass and the North German red-brown clinker brick create a robust but open atmosphere. The picture window by artist Ekkehard Thieme is particularly striking and provides an artistic accent. The building follows an axial grid of 7.20 metres, allowing for a great deal of flexibility inside.

Diverse use and cultural relevance

Since its opening, the Town Hall has been a popular venue for cultural and social events in Eckernförde. It offers space for a wide range of events and at the same time represents a successful combination of architecture and functionality. The integration of additional facilities such as the library and restaurant makes it a central component of urban life.
