The challenge of the property, which is located on a busy main road in the Baltic seaside resort of Eckernförde, was to reconcile all of these issues. The building had to correspond with the neighboring 2-3 storey residential buildings as well as with a supermarket and a high-rise building on the opposite side of the street.
The basic architecture of the residential and commercial building in Rendsburger Straße in Eckernförde is classic and traditional. Our Eckernförde architectural office chose a classic red-brown brick, which is traditionally found in the surrounding area, as well as a final pitched roof made of red clay tiles.
The front conservatories and the final pulpit on the roof bring the modern style elements prevalent at the time into the architecture.
The glass cubes in front convey a light, transparent architecture that impresses with simple but effective details: the corners of the glass cubes, for example, which do not need any frames at all, the transparent parapet elements made of expanded metal, the porthole windows that play with Eckernförde’s maritime location and the stringent vertical and horizontal structure of the building.
