The operating theatre at the Ostseeklinik Damp was thoroughly modernised in the course of its renovation and new construction in 1995. The centrepiece is an operating theatre that guarantees absolute sterility thanks to ultrasterile clean room cabins with laminar flow ceilings. This technology, combined with the targeted separation of traffic flows, enables efficient utilisation of the space. As a result, six operating theatre zones could be realised – far more than is usual in conventional operating theatre facilities. The innovative approach combines space-saving architecture with the highest standards of hygiene, which sustainably improves the functionality of the clinic.
Patients enter the operating areas horizontally via airlocks and mobile operating tables, while the operating team enters vertically via direct access from the changing rooms. This separation ensures optimum hygiene and smooth workflows. Sterile instruments and materials are also supplied via vertical transport systems that are connected to the sterile supplies store. Within the operating theatre cubicles, mobile devices such as C-arms and monitors ensure maximum flexibility without compromising sterility.
The Ostseeklinik Damp, a specialist hospital specialising in orthopaedics, performs around 6,000 operations every year. The restructuring of the operating centre was necessary in order to meet the increasing demands on capacity and functionality. With the new concept, the clinic is setting standards in the combination of efficiency, hygiene and modern hospital planning and remains a pioneer in medical care.
