Retirement and nursing home at the hospital, Eckernförde
Retirement and nursing home at the hospital, Eckernförde
After winning an architectural competition, our office was commissioned to design and realise a modern retirement and nursing home in Eckernförde. The new building on Schleswiger Strasse was constructed between 1982 and 1984 and offers comprehensive care for elderly people and those in need of care in three wings. A total of 40 residential places were created, divided into 32 single and 4 double rooms as well as 20 retirement home places and 40 nursing places. The architecture specifically takes into account the needs of the residents in order to create a pleasant and functional environment.

Living and recreation rooms for harmonious coexistence
The ground floor is designed as a central meeting area with lounges and communication rooms. This is where residents can meet, spend time together and socialise. Additional services such as a hairdressing salon and cosy seating areas contribute to the quality of living and create a homely setting that promotes well-being. This design supports the community and at the same time offers private retreats.

Versatile utilisation options in the basement
The basement of the home extends the range of facilities with a variety of functional rooms. In addition to a bathing area for therapeutic treatments, there are rooms for festivities as well as sports and gymnastics areas. These additions provide a holistic range of care and offer space for exercise, relaxation and socialising. The combination of living comfort and functional additional areas makes this retirement and care home an important care centre and a successful example of modern care architecture.
