In 2001, the historic post office in Eckernförde was extensively remodelled and renovated by rimpf Architektur & Generalplanung in order to give the building a new and versatile use. Originally used as a post office, the space was transformed into a lively shopping arcade, which today comprises seven shops and a central bakery. In addition to traditional baked goods, the bakery also offers a restaurant and has established itself as a popular meeting place in the heart of the arcade.
The original post office has been retained in its new form and has been rebuilt as a simple extension. The historic main building itself was largely preserved and underwent careful restoration to retain its original character. Particularly noteworthy is the conversion of the old vaulted cellars into an exclusive restaurant, where rustic walls meet sophisticated gastronomy and create an ambience that combines the charm of times gone by with modern comfort.
Modern office space with panoramic views
High-quality office space has been created on the upper floors, which offer a view of the picturesque Eckernförde Bay through extensive glazing to the east. This panoramic view not only gives the offices a bright and open atmosphere, but also makes them a special place to work.
An architectural highlight for Eckernförde
The careful combination of historical architecture with modern design elements has made the conversion of the old post office a striking architectural highlight in Eckernförde and emphasises the importance of this building for urban development.
